Evergreen Living Innovations, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) whose roots began in 1863 in Johnson County, KS, as the “County Poor Farm.” The “Poor Farm” was established as a place where poor elder county residents without family to care for them could go to live out their lives. The name was later changed to the Johnson County Nursing Center and was operated as a county nursing home until 2002.
In 2003, the county privatized the operation and Johnson County Nursing Center became a separate independent 501(c)(3) with a mission is to provide the best quality person-centered nursing home care to those who with minimal financial resources (80% of residents are on Medicaid). In 2009, the organization changed its name to Evergreen Living Innovations, Inc.
There are now two divisions of Evergreen Living Innovations - the skilled nursing center which is called the Evergreen Community of Johnson County and GERTI. The Evergreen Community of Johnson County (ECOJC) is a 112-bed licensed skilled nursing facility. GERTI, the educational division, was created in 2003. GERTI’s mission is to help organizations transform their institutional culture and task and time oriented operations into a more home-like and less institutional residential living through free and low cost education to the long-term care workforce.
